Electronic Research Administration (eRA)

UIRIS

The University’s efforts in electronic research administration (eRA) are focused on UIRIS (University of Iowa Research Information System) which includes electronic routing, grant tracking, and electronic award notification. In a broad context, eRA is intended to encompass a completely paperless process for the entire life cycle of a grant from proposal preparation, internal routing, proposal submission, award acceptance, award authorization notification, project monitoring, cash drawdown and management, and project closeout.

UIRIS must be accessed for a PI or grant administrator to complete the University of Iowa Proposal Routing Form. UIRIS is password protected therefore access must be requested by completing and submitting an electronic form (found at UIRIS by clicking the "Request Access" link) to obtain a password. At the time access is requested, a Personal Profile is created that can be modified as needed. A PI can view his/her records of sponsored project applications and awards through SPRIE (Sponsored Projects Research Information Electronically).

proposalCENTRAL is a web-based grant management solution for government, non-profit, and private grant-making organizations to simplify their operations by receiving and reviewing grant applications online. From this single web site, thousands of applicants and reviewers can interact electronically with all the grant-makers that are members of proposalCENTRAL.

NOTE:  Please check the website of any potential funder for specific submission requirements.  More and more funding agencies have developed and are requiring electronic submission.  Call 335-2123 or email our office if you have any questions.

UI WINS

For applications to sponsors that limit the number of applicants from the University, an internal selection process is required. An electonic system called UI WINS is used for tracking applications that require UI nomination.

eAAAN

Awards received electonically by Sponsored Programs from sponsors such as NIH and NSF are distributed internally with an electronic Award Activation Authorization Notice (eAAAN) that informs the appropriate college and department administrators as well as the PI of award information including the MFK. The list of administrators known as Research Administrators is maintained by the Division of Sponsored Programs. Contact uiris-data@uiowa.edu concerning corrections, updates, or omissions to this list.
