| WelcomeThe Clinical Trials Office invites patients and healthy volunteers to participate in medical research. Please visit our Clinical Trials Watch to see a list of open trials at the University. If you are interested in a particular study, there is a phone number you can call to get further information and see if you are eligible to enroll. Why Participate in Medical Research? When you visit your doctor's office, undergo surgery, have an MRI scan, or take a prescription drug, you probably are enjoying a direct benefit from clinical trials performed in the past. Your doctor may prescribe medication that was tested for safety and efficacy in clinical trials prior to being approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in patients such as yourself. You or someone you know may have an implantable defibrillator, a device which was first tested in clinical trials and now has proven to be been a major advance in the treatment of abnormalities of heart rhythm. A key benefit of your participation will be the advancement of medical science to serve society as a whole. Studies also may offer an experimental therapy that is not yet available to the general public but may be attractive to a patient who has exhausted standard medical care options.
